Catcalling is a way of removing a woman's voice. How many times have you witnessed/experienced/heard about a woman responding to a catcall with a loud "fuck off" which only encouraged the man to follow/harass/chase her? In my world "fuck off" means "no." But in the world of cat-calling, "fuck off" means intimidate, harass, or yell louder.

My Kind of Partnership

Looking back, one of the reasons I could never see myself in partnership was because I always saw it as a compromise of identity. To be partnered, I reasoned, I would have to choose one person to love, I would have to reject parts of my personality, I would have to deny my own ambitions. This is what traditional marriage looked like to me: endless stories of women giving up careers to have babies or men giving up personal ambitions to support a family. College degrees squandered, zippy cars traded in for mini-vans. It all looked so dreary to me, and yet I had no alternatives to look to.

Economy of language is a wonderful thing- I admire writers who are able to express in three words what others take paragraphs to say.  I overwrite- a big part of my most recent edit is getting rid of superfluous adjectives creating overwrought descriptions, and a lot of redundancies.
