This is the date when you’ll be able to visit Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite indie bookstore, and get my book. If you want to preorder an autographed copy, hop on over to my store. The Proper Care and Feeding of your Author

Posted by on Jan 3, 2013 in Blog, Writing | 2 comments

I just finished developmental edits. This is a big honking deal. It basically means my book survived being torn apart by beta readers and my wonderful editor, who told me (in the nicest way possible) when my protagonist sucked, when she stopped caring about what happened, and when I became a self-indulgent twit writing pretty instead of telling a story.  Developmental editing is the hardest part of writing a book, imho, because the book looks done. It even feels done. But it’s not done. No no no. Not at all. Sometimes in devo edits,...

Kickstarter & Hungry Ghost Updatage

Well, everyone in the post office hates me forever, but NOT YOU GUYS! All the rewards have been shipped and are on their way to you now! I’m keeping track of all my expenses, and I’ll do a separate post when I’ve spent the Kickstarter money so you can see exactly where it’s going. So far, I’ve already given my editor and cover designer half their fees to thank them for their STUPENDOUS work. Speaking of work, Hungry Ghost edits are going great. My editor, Alyc Helms, is wielding her editorial riding crop...

Blog Hoppin’ – Answering Questions about Hungry Ghost

Posted by on Nov 26, 2012 in Blog, Literature, Writing | 0 comments

My good friend and all-around sexy person, Jiz Lee, invited me to participate in a Blog Hop, whereby folks can meet new authors. Those of you who found me through Jiz, welcome! These questions are perfectly timed, since I’m working hard on edits for my second novel right now.  Read on!   What is the working title of your next book?  Hungry Ghost is book #2 of the Tales of the Pack series. Where did the idea come from for the book?  The first book in Tales of the Pack, Lunatic Fringe, came about from a conversation I had with my...

10 Things Kickstarter Taught Me

10 Things Kickstarter Taught Me

You may have heard I recently ran a successful Kickstarter campaign. As I compile the backer rewards while simultaneously putting together a Thanksgiving menu, allow me to reflect on 10 things I learned about authorship from my Kickstarter experience: 1) Asking for money is hard.  I’ve worked in the non-profit sector for most of my career, specifically in the arts. I’ve done every kind of gig there is to be found in the arts world, except for one: development. In non-profits, development simply means asking people and corporations...

This Halloween, Why Not Make an Investment in Lesbian Werewolves?

Halloween. While your neighborhood is filled with screaming trick-or-treaters and insecure adults in costumes they keep hiking down to cover their asses, you might be wondering “What’s in it for me?” Well. . . have you heard of lesbian werewolves? I know, I know. Lesbians aren’t real, you might think. They’re just some mythical creature conjured up by our ancestors to scare our children into obedience. But what if I told you that once every 18 months, new stories of female werewolves emerge, penetrating the minds...

RISK-y Behavior [AUDIO]

RISK-y Behavior [AUDIO]

One of my favorite podcasts, RISK! likes me back! I was on two recent episodes which you can listen to for free on the RISK website. The first one, “Everybody Naked”, is a bit risque (as you might have guessed from the title) and the second, “Here Comes Trouble”, takes us way back to my high school days when the Bare Naked Ladies were all the rage and I was bad at saying no to nice boys. In a nice bit of theater-geek kismet, I was also a huge fan of The State in high school, and the creator of RISK is the star of the...

8 Thoughts on Crowd-Funding

Posted by on Oct 15, 2012 in Blog, Publishing, Writing | 0 comments

As you likely noticed, if you pay attention to me on the web at all, I’m currently running a Kickstarter for my second book, Hungry Ghost. I’m raising funds to pay my cover designer and my editor, both of whom worked for free on my first book, Lunatic Fringe.  I’m closing in on 1/2 funding as of this writing and I’m over the moon at the response from eager readers all over the country. It took a lot of hand-wringing for me to do this, however. I was raised as a self-sufficient Midwestern capitalist, and it’s hard for me to get used...
